Overview

3 Days/2 Nights Orangutan and Wildlife Explorer tour promises you a magical, unforgettable experience in the wilds of Borneo. Located in the peninsula on the south coast of the world’s third largest tropical rain forest of Borneo, in Indonesian province of Central Kalimantan, the Tanjung Puting National Park consist of 741,100 acres. Started as a game reserve for the protection of orangutans in 1936 and 1937, it was upgraded to a National Park in 1982. It is the only protected area in South East Asia with vast tract of wetlands, lowland, mature tropical heath and swamp forests with large rookery that provide breeding grounds for a wide population of waterfowl. The needs of Orangutans and other primates are also available in the park, such as the 400 species of trees which can be consumed by them.

Staying at Rimba Ecolodge that feels truly remote, visit Orangutan rehabilitation centers, coinciding with the primates mealtimes and also witnessing the diverse rich Borneo ecosystem. This tour will leave you with fond memories forever. A photographers dream beholds!

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival Pangkalan Bun - Kumai - Sekonyer River – Rimba Ecolodge (L/D)

Arrive at Iskandar Airport in Pangkalan Bun where you will be met by our Asia World Representative and transfer to Kumai Port the gate to reach National Park, to board our klotok/boat. The boat is a traditional Klotok wooden river boat about 12m by 2m with a roof which forms the upper deck where you can view the rain forest as it glides by.

On board, crossing Kumai river in approximately 15 minutes to reach Sekonyer River, the min river in National Park. Lunch will be served on boat by the cook. You are riding on the boat about 2 hours to reach Rimba Ecolodge where you will stay over-night.

Check in at the lodge, enjoy the view surrounding. At 16.30, you’ll continue the tour to observe Proboscis monkeys along the riverbanks. Proboscis monkeys are being the endemic animal that can be seen only in Borneo. Get back to the lodge for having dinner and overnight.

Overnight at Rimba Ecolodge

Day 2Rimba Ecolodge - Pondok Tanggui - Camp Leaky - Rimba Ecolodge (B/L/D)

After breakfast, proceed upstream in to Pondok Tanggui the second rehabilitation center where you can enjoy many babies and juveniles at feeding area around 09.00 am, taking pictures while having the information from your guide about them.

You will continue the tour to reach the highlight of National Park, Camp Leakey area. It will pass the black river which is full of wildlife within such as many kind of birds, primates, fish, also crocodiles. Arriving at Camp Leakey, start the hiking track into the forest to gain information of the heterogenic forest wildlife while observing some wild animal as well.

At 12.00 back to the boat for having lunch which will be served by the cook with various delicious Indonesian food. Then you continue the tour by following orangutan feeding program which is being held at 14.00, bringing milk and fruits, feeders will leads you to the state platform. You will enjoy the feeding till 16.00, afterwards back to the boat then return down stream to Rimba Ecolodge for overnight and having dinner.

Day 3Departure Transfer - Eco Lodge - Kumai - Pangkalan Bun (B)

Morning breakfast at the lodge, then boating down the river back to Kumai. Direct transfer to Iskandar Airport at Pangkalan Bun for your next destination
