Overview

Asia World Indonesia invites you to discover Komodo National Park with a 4-day and 3-night adventure on-board Ikan Terbang. Explore the famous Komodo Is-land and encounter the Komodo dragon, one of the last survivors of the prehistoric era.

The name of this traditional schooner literally means ―flying fish‖ and you’ll be amazed by its impressive cruising speed. Ikan Terbang was built following the ancestral boat building techniques of the Bugis people of Sulawesi.

Located just a few kilometers from Flores, the Komodo National Park encompasses the islands of Komodo and Rinca. There are also a multitude of small uninhabited isles that are fringed with white sands extending out to particularly rich sea beds. The area is also home to many macaques, wild boars, deer and buffaloes. Besides the magnificent savanna scenery, you are also able to swim in the turquoise waters and explore the underwater world.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Labuan Bajo - Board on Ikan Terbang - Set Sail to Kelor Island - Visit Rinca Village (L/D)

Upon arriving at Komodo Airportin Labuhan Bajo (Flores Island), you will be greeted by the Ikan Terbang team and transferred to the port of Labuhan Bajo. You will then board this traditional schooner for an experience of a lifetime sailing some of the most stunning waterways in the region.

Once settled, you will sail directly to Kelor Island to explore its white sandy beaches and beautiful coral reefs.Late afternoon, we will visit the village of Rinca and meet the Bajo people who live in unusual houses on stilts over the tidal waterways.

We finish our day enjoying the sunset and anchoring the boat for an evening under the stars.Lunch, dinner and overnight on board Ikan Terbang

Day 2Rinca Island -Padar Island (B/L/D)

Enjoy a delicious breakfast on-board the vessel followed by an early morning trek to Rinca Island, the second largest island in the Komodo Marine Park. It is famous for its population of Komodo dragons as well as wild pigs, buffaloes and birds. Venture through a landscape of dry forest where deer and long tail macaque feed on the various leaves, fruit, flowers, roots and grasses found in the park.

Komodo Dragons are the top predators in this environment and thus all animals in the park are potential prey. These creatures were scientifically described in 1912 as Varanus komodoensis – the largest monitor lizard in the world. With a ranger leading the way, you will get to see these amazing creatures in their natural habitat.

Later on, we will navigate to the uninhabited Padar Island for an afternoon of swimming and snorkeling where the beaches are among the finest in the world. Padar is a relatively small island that is approximately 16 km2 in size. The topography consists of hills that reach some 269 m above sea level (Mount Pyramid) along with pristine sandy beaches that slope in the north, and some steep and rocky beaches to the south.

As darkness falls, we will anchor the boat under the stars.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner and overnight on-board Ikan Terbang

Day 3Padar Island - Karang Makassar - Gili Lawa Darat - Sebayur Island (B/L/D)

After breakfast, we will set sail to Karang Makassa, also known as Manta Point. It is one of the most popular places for snorkeling, especially for those wanting to see manta rays. These huge marine creatures can grow up to 4 meters wide. Although huge in size, they are considered gentle sea animals. Manta rays are among many species heading towards extinction. Divers and marine life lovers are constantly taking measures to protect these creatures from illegal fishing practices.

Manta Point offers an excellent snorkeling experience with reefs that lie from 2 to 9 meters deep. Turtles, Snapper, Eagle Rays, Giant Trevally, Huge Clams, various Sponges and Cattle Fish are just some of the creatures that you will easily encounter. If you are lucky enough, you may even get the opportunity to swim alongside Manta Rays.

In the late afternoon, we set off to the uninhabited island of Gili Lawa Darat where you will get to trek and enjoy panoramic views over the entire island. Facing west, you can see Sangeang Island, an active volcanic island that seemingly rises out of the sea. While waiting for the sunset, take delight in the magnificent scenery of the superb blue ocean and the surrounding dessert-like islands towards Komodo National Park. This is a dream opportunity for anyone who loves photography. Then it is time to head back to boat and set sail toward Sebayur Island where we will anchor for another night under the stars.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner and overnight on board Ikan Terbang.

Day 4Sebayur Island - Labuhan Bajo Harbor - Komodo Airport - Flight to Bali (B)

Arise early and enjoy a delicious breakfast on board Ikan Terbang. Today, the boat will head back to Labuhan Bajo. Along the way, we will make a final stop at Sebayur Island for snorkeling just off the shore of a deserted beach.

From the mooring, there is a coral slope that runs into a pristine white sand bottom where you will spot garden eels and goat fish. Impatient sea cumbers are also abundant, along with many other types of echinoderms. Look around, as sometimes you may spot an octopus using its tentacles to squeeze into a burrow to grab a quick meal.

Afterwards, the vessel will start sailing towards the harbor at Labuan Bajo. Upon arrival you will be transferred to Komodo Airport by car to catch your flight for your onward destination.
